    English

    English

English forms the basis for our development, relationships and our understanding of the world around us. The study of English is key to our personal growth and, through the development of effective written and spoken communication, it is the foundation for all our learning. At St. Aidan’s, we believe that the ability to communicate effectively, confidently and with clarity is crucial in becoming an effective participant in our wider community. We believe that pupils deserve a broad and ambitious English curriculum, rich in skills and knowledge, which ignites curiosity and prepares them well for future learning or employment.

    Maths

    Maths

In the Mathematics Department we aim to show every student that they can be a mathematician. Our curriculum covers the key content areas, challenging students to not only learn now knowledge but understand how it builds on their current foundations. We strive for fluency of skills for each student and then deepen this understanding with contextual and reasoning problems alongside links to other areas of the curriculum. We want students to leave us in maths as logical thinkers, keen problem solvers and learners that are resilient to unfamiliar circumstances.

It allows opportunities for personal reflection, spiritual development and encourages empathy

Pupils will learn about Christianity as a living faith that influences the lives of people worldwide. They will also learn about other major world religions and non-religious world views; their impact on society, culture and the wider world.

Through their study of French, pupils will first and foremost be given the opportunity to develop crucial communication and literacy skills but will also gain an invaluable insight into the different countries and cultures of the French-speaking world. We encourage pupils to express themselves in another language and interact with its speakers, both in speech and in writing.
